One of the oldest buildings on Park Street, built in 1762, this attractive building was in a poor state having been used as office accommodation for many years. Our brief was to maximise the potential of the building by converting the upper floors to residential flats whilst retaining a retail unit on the ground and basement levels.
The building has undergone many alterations over the centuries and we took the opportunity to rationalise the space, removing later interventions and awkward internal lightwells.
The central part of the building was removed and the stairwell relocated to provide space for 6 flats. The new stairwell is lit by a range of large rooflights over and murals by a local artist adorn the walls. The flat interiors were clean and simple. Within the top floor maisonette, the original roof timbers are exposed.
The ground floor retail unit was also converted to a lively gin bar.
